Hanse ship visualized

Archaeologists from the City of Lübeck worked for more than half a year with the salvage company Archcom and 3D artist Lorenzo de Sanctis to visualize the Hanse ship. Since this is a previously unknown type of ship, the particular challenge was to incorporate missing elements from comparable vessels. While we know large parts of the hull of the Hanse ship and have clues as to the location of the cabins, the deck superstructure and rigging were based on contemporary oil paintings and copperplate engravings, as well as other wreck finds. In addition to masts and sails, a horizontal capstan used to raise the anchors, a deckhouse for the crew, and a dinghy were reconstructed based on models.
