Barrel sawn open

New samples for determining the origin

Last year, samples from the barrels filled with quicklime were sent to a special laboratory in Denmark. Unfortunately, the tests did not yield the hoped-for results, as the sample material was too contaminated – probably a result of long storage on the Trave riverbed. Therefore, a new attempt has now been made. This time, samples were taken from the inside of an intact barrel. This was done with the kind support of the Materials Testing Institute at the Technical University of Lübeck. The institute specialises in mineral building materials, so it was able to professionally cut open a hardened quicklime barrel and take samples without any problems.
