Travemünde Week - highlight in July
Travemünde Week is the world's largest sailing sport event and each year attracts roughly 3,000 sailing enthusiasts in 800 boats to the start of the regatta field in the Bay of Lübeck. The Baltic sporting event is complemented by a mainland festival, which attracts hundreds of thousands of people to Travemünde, "Lübeck's most beautiful daughter."
This sailing week of world renown was held for the first time as early as 1889. Numerous prominent sailors have taken part - indeed, the German Kaiser did so on several occasions with the yachts "Meteor" and "Hohenzollern".
The main focus now is on championships in different boat classes: many world, European and German champions get their titles here.
