Ett öga rött Das Kamel ohne Höcker One Eye Red

Sweden 2007, 91 Min., English subtitles, Recommended age: 14 years and up

Ett öga rött

Halim's parents are from Morocco, he himself was born in Sweden. His family leads a happy life in the suburbs of Stockholm, until Halim's mother dies of a muscular disease. His father wants to start a new life and he and Halim move to the inner city, where he opens a new shop. He shaves off his moustache, listens to ABBA and does everything he can to mutate into a good Swede. Halim is appalled. He suspects a Swedish integration conspiracy and decides to uphold his family's Arabic roots – by any means necessary. The literary adaptation of the bestselling novel of the same name by Jonas Hassen Khemiri comes in the guise of a fast-paced teen comedy, examining the “clash of cultures” and the imminent threat of a radicalisation of Muslim youth. The brightly-coloured images and fast cuts are inspired by the popular films of Bollywood.
