Documentary, Iceland 2017, 57 Min., icel. OV, engl. st
"690 is the postal code for Vopnafjörður, a remote fishing village on the northeast coast of Iceland. And they would like to see the population of the town grow to 690; at the moment it’s just 645. Everyone knows everyone else, where they live and who their relatives are. There’s a choir and a football club, and in the summertime, much to do in the fishing trade. But outside of fishing season, when the factory is closed, life almost comes to a halt and melancholy sets in. It’s no wonder that most young people move away. The filmmakers spent five years observing life here, and the subjects are correspondingly open and unabashed about sharing. They talk about life and the quirks of Vopnafjörður; like the village policewoman who hardly ever writes a ticket because she doesn’t want to ruin relations with fellow villagers. The film succeeds in portraying a village between tradition and change."
