Children´s and Youth Films, Faroe Islands / Denmark 2017, 78 Min., faroese OV, engl. st, 14 years and older
Ester sits bored while her parents run the Sunday school. Her tiny home town, which lies on a remote Faroe Island, offers the 16-year-old few distractions. She can’t get excited about the sweaters that the women in the village knit so passionately, nor does she care about the boys’ mopeds. When Ragna, who’s just her age, suddenly appears, Ester is fascinated. Ragna speaks and acts differently. She drinks alcohol, and she and her mother and brother never live in the same place for long. But what seems like a dream life of freedom takes a toll on Ragna. She seeks the kind of stability from Ester and her parents that her own mother can’t provide. The film concentrates entirely on the girls’ friendship and their opposing desires, with the Faroe Island landscape providing an impressive backdrop.
