Helsinki-Napoli – All Night Long

Helsinki-Napoli – All Night Long

Retrospective, Finland / Germany / Switzerland 1987, 103 Min., engl., finn., ital, french, russ., germ.,OV, engl. st, FSK 16

Alex, born in Finland, drives a taxi in Berlin. His wife Stella, who is Italian, works in the cab company’s dispatch office, while her father, an old Mafioso, looks after the grandchildren. One Friday the 13th, of all days, Alex finds a suitcase full of money in his taxi. It comes from a drug deal and belongs to two men who are now dead. Alex is the next name on the hit list, since the gang boss will do anything to get his money back. The film is a multi-cultural thriller set in old West Berlin, stomping grounds of stateless characters from Finland, Italy, Russia and the USA – nothing but dreamers, mavericks, restless wanderers between cultures. Featuring a cast of director friends and veterans of the crime film genre, “Helsinki-Napoli” is not only a rendezvous of nationalities, but also a nocturnal tour de force through film history.
