Documentary, Sweden 2015, 88 Min., engl. port., dan. OV, germ. st
It’s war out on the streets – that’s the impression you get as a cyclist who’s narrowly escaped being run over by a car. Owning a car is a less and less attractive proposition. Even the broadest boulevards in major cities are gridlocked at rush hour. The traffic jams are frustrating for drivers and they also have dramatic consequences for the environment and the climate. This documentary looks at the best alternative for places where public transit is inadequate. World-wide, more and more people are turning to bicycles to get from A to Z. The film follows committed cycling advocates in São Paulo and Los Angeles, and films citizens in Toronto who re-paint bike lanes on the streets at night after they’ve been removed. Subjects talk about the pleasure of a relaxed bike ride and the fear of being run over by a car. And there’s a look at the bike paradise that is Copenhagen, where more than 40 percent of commuters have long since given up driving a car.
