• 51st Nordic Film Days end with positive balance

  The 51st Nordic Film Days Lübeck have ended with a positive festival balance. Around 24,000 people attended the 160 screenings and supporting events of the renowned festival, which thus succeeded in holding last year’s audience record. “The people of Lübeck have once again proved their love of Nordic cinema,” says Bernd Saxe, Mayor of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck.

• “A Rational Solution” wins NDR Award for Best Feature Film at 51st Nordic Film Days Lübeck

  The Swedish marriage drama “A Rational Solution” by Jörgen Bergmark has won the NDR Award for Best Feature Film at the 51st Nordic Film Days Lübeck. “Great actors who are unafraid of direct and vulnerable moments lead us through a story that is both crazy and very close to real life,” said the jury in praise of the film starring Pernilla August and Rolf Lassgård, in which an affair puts two couples to the test.

• North German Film Prize: "Buddenbrooks" is "Best Feature Film - Cinema"

  The State Governments of Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein are presenting the North German Film Prize in four categories within the framework of the 51st Nordic Film Days Lübeck: Endowed with 20,000 euros, the North German Film Prize for “Best Feature Film – Cinema” goes to BUDDENBROOKS by Heinrich Breloer. The jury congratulates producer Matthias Esche (Bavaria Film) on a successful reinterpretation of an important literary original.

• Stars from Scandinavia and Germany to visit 51st Nordic Film Days Lübeck

  Top class guests from Scandinavia and Germany will be in Lübeck from 4th to 7th November to present their latest productions in the programme of the 51st Nordic Film Days Lübeck: master director Nils Mamros from Denmark returns to Lübeck to present his latest cinema success “Aching Hearts”. In 1982 his now classic youth drama “Tree of Knowledge” won the Lübecker Nachrichten Audience Prize.

  The German actress Jasmin Schwiers, star of Leander Haußmann’s “NVA”", and the German director Sven Taddicken, whose film “Emma’s Bliss” was a great audience success, are members of the jury that will present the NDR Award for Best Feature Film at the 51st Nordic Film Days Lübeck. 17 contemporary films from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland and Lithuania are competing for the prize, which will be awarded on 7th November.

• Nordic Film Days Lübeck: In its 51st year the festival presents 140 northern cinema highlights

  From 4th to 8th November the 51st Nordic Film Days Lübeck are showing 140 feature, short and documentary films from Scandinavia, the Baltic States and Northern Germany on eight cinema screens in Lübeck. In the feature film competition, films by young directors are competing with the works of old masters such as Nils Malmros, Klaus Härö and Gunnar Vikene. Top class guests from Scandinavia are presenting their films in person.

  At the 51st Nordic Film Days Lübeck, the Nordic production of children’s and youth films proves to be as up-to-date as ever, as well as being of the highest quality on a global scale. Produced as perfect family entertainment on a high technical level, this year’s films centre around the topics of friendship and self-discovery as well as sickness and death: the Danish youth drama “Crying for Love” by Christian E. Christiansen tells of three young women with cancer, who fight for their life dreams and struggle with their fear of death.

• Feature films: from contemporary thriller to star-cast marriage drama

  A high tension thriller, marriage dramas in the tradition of Ingmar Bergman, impressionist metropolitan films: the feature film programme of the 51st Nordic Film Days Lübeck contains the full diversity of Nordic cinema. The festival opens with the romantic Norwegian film “The Orange Girl” by Eva Dahr, which thematizes cross-generational faith in the power of love.

• Documentary films: portraits of society and Ingmar Bergman at work

  The 25 contributions to the documentary film programme at the 51st Nordic Film Days Lübeck mirror manifold current day and historic aspects of North European society: Janus Metz’ “Love on Delivery” is a social didactic play and intimate portrait of women from Thailand who have married into provincial Denmark. Jaak Kilmi’s “Disco & Atomic War” from Estonia tells of Cold War times, when the reception of Finnish TV in Tallinn sparked conflicts about the “right” way of thinking.

  The civil war drama "Tears of April" by Finnish director Aku Louhimies, which ran in the competition at the 50th Nordic Film Days Lübeck, is being released in German cinemas on 3rd September.

• North German Film Prize stays in Lübeck

  The 2009 and 2010 North German Film Prizes will be presented in Lübeck. This year the mutual award by the state governments of Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein will be presented on 7th November at the 51st Nordic Film Days Lübeck. It is awarded in four categories and is endowed with altogether 75,000 euros, amounting to 25,000 euros more than in the previous year.

One thematic focus will lie on the 20th anniversary of the opening of the border between East and West Germany.

  The popular Scandinavian film series at the Filmhaus cinema in Lübeck, initiated last year on the occasion of Nordic Film Days’ 50th anniversary, continues into its second year. It starts on Tuesday, 31st March with the Icelandic feature film "Nói Albínói" from the year 2002.

• The Award Winners of the 50th Nordic Film Days

  The Norwegian feature film "The Man Who Loved Yngve" has won the NDR Award for Best Feature Film of the 50th Nordic Film Days Lübeck. The debut film by director Stian Kristiansen tells of a schoolboy’s painful coming-out in the eighties. The jury praised the “incredible lightness, warmth and humour” of the film, while its characters remain veracious throughout.

• The Award Winners of the North German Film Prize 2008

  Within the framework of the 50th Nordic film Days Lübeck, Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein has awarded the North German Film Prize in three categories: the North German Film Prize for “Best Feature Film”, endowed with 20,000 euros, goes to "Robert Zimmermann wundert sich über die Liebe" by Leander Haußmann.
